Sugarcane is a perennial, tropical grass species. A mature cane produces many new shoots near it which usually grow three to four meters tall and 5 centimeters in diameter.
Its thick fibrous stem is filled with sugary compounds. When sugarcane is fully mature, it is 75% of the entire plant. Sugarcane is kept in a cash crop category but is also used as animal feed in most parts of the world.
Sugarcane juice, when extracted, contains only fifteen percent raw sugars—less than some of your typical juices or smoothies. It is said to have a low glycemic index (GI) and is therefore highly recommended for diabetics.
